Complete Address Change Checklist for BC Residents
Moving means updating your address in more places than most people expect. Miss one and you risk missed mail, lapsed coverage, or government correspondence going to the wrong address. This checklist covers everything.
Government and Legal (Priority — Do These First)
- ICBC — Update driver's licence and vehicle registration at icbc.com or through an Autoplan broker. Must be done within 10 days of moving.
- BC Services Card — Update at id.gov.bc.ca or a Service BC location
- Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) — Update at canada.ca/my-account or on your next tax return
- Elections BC — Update voter registration at elections.bc.ca
- Passport — Not required immediately, but update when you renew
- Canada Post mail forwarding — Set up at canadapost.ca to catch any missed updates
Financial
- All bank accounts (chequing, savings, investment)
- Credit cards
- PayPal and other payment services
- Investment accounts (RRSP, TFSA, RESP)
- Insurance policies (home, auto, life, disability)
- Mortgage lender (if applicable)
- Accountant or tax preparer
Employment and Income
- Employer (HR department)
- Employment Insurance (Service Canada)
- CPP/OAS if receiving benefits
- Any pension providers

- Family doctor

- Specialists and other healthcare providers

- Pet's veterinarian

- Streaming services (if they send physical mail)
- Gym or fitness club membership
- Library card (get a new one at your local branch)

Before moving day: Set up Canada Post mail forwarding.
Within 10 days of moving: Update ICBC (legally required).
