Moving Day Checklist for Metro Vancouver
Moving day is here. Here is everything you need to do — in order — to make it go smoothly.
Before the Crew Arrives
- Do a final walkthrough of every room
- Check inside all closets, cabinets, and under beds
- Check the garage, basement, and any outdoor storage areas
- Confirm everything is packed, sealed, and labelled
- Confirm large furniture is disassembled (bed frames, desks)
- Clear the path from each room to the front door
- Lay floor protection (rosin paper or cardboard) along the traffic path
- Move cars out of the driveway
- Have the freight elevator booking confirmation ready (if applicable)
- Have cold water available for the crew
- Separate items that are NOT moving (donations, items for new owners)
- Have your first-night bag ready (travels with you in the car)
When the Crew Arrives
- Show the crew through the home
- Point out fragile items and specialty items
- Confirm the destination address
- Confirm access at the new address (elevator, parking, entry code)
- Let the crew work — stay available but out of the way
During Loading
- Stay available to answer questions
- Do a room-by-room check as each room is cleared
- Point out any items that need special handling
- Keep children and pets away from the loading area
Before the Truck Leaves

At the New Address
- Arrive before the truck
- Unlock the door and clear the path
- Have a floor plan in mind for furniture placement
- Direct the crew on where each piece of furniture goes
- Check that utilities are working (electricity, hot water, heat)
- Do a walkthrough after unloading to confirm everything is in place
- Inspect furniture for any damage before the crew leaves
- Note any damage on the completion paperwork
- Sign the completion paperwork
- Tip the crew if you are happy with the service
After the Move
